LALIFF 2018

17th Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival
June 20-24 - TCL Chinese Theatres, Hollywood



The premiere Latino International Film Festival return after 5 years of absence with expanded programming and award winning films from Latin America. The festival will be held at the historic TCL Chinese theaters in Hollywood from June 20 to 24 showcasing feature films, documentaries, shorts, panels, and music programs.


INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILMS:



BAD LABOR - 86 min. USA



A day laborer takes a job from a stranger that pays handsomely, only to discover that it entails kidnapping, murder and a burial.








BAD LUCKY GOAT  - 76 min. Colombia



After accidentally killing a bearded goat with their father’s truck, two incompatible siblings in their teenage years, embark on a journey of reconciliation. Corn and Rita must find a way to repair the truck in time to pick up the tourists that will be staying at their family’s hotel. As they struggle to find the means necessary to conceal the accident, the siblings will visit a butcher, rastafari drum makers, a pawn shop and even a witch doctor, in a 24-hour adventure around Port Paradise.








CANDELARIA  - 88 min. Cuba



The 90s. Cuba is drowning in hunger, cigars and rum. In this grim landscape, the life of Candelaria and Victor Hugo, a couple who stayed together out of inertia, takes a surprising turn the day Candelaria finds a video camera.







HOME TEAM (Mi Mundial)  - 102 min. Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina



A 13-year old small-town soccer prodigy gets the chance of his life to follow his dreams and get his humble family out of poverty. It takes a misfortune to bring him down to earth and recognize what is really important in life.





KILLING JESUS (Matar a Jesús)  - 99 min. Colombia, Argentina


A few months after witnessing the murder of her father, a woman crosses paths with a young man she believes to be his killer, in Laura Mora’s feature debut based on true events.







LOTS OF KIDS, A MONKEY AND A CASTLE (Mucho hijos, un mondo y un castillo)  - 91 min. Spain

A charming and rich portrait of eccentric matriarch Julita Salmerón and her family. With hilarious and unexpected turns we discover just how Julita got her three childhood wishes: lots of kids, a monkey, and a castle.



LOVELING (Benzinho)  - 97 min. Brazil


On the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, Irene has only a few days to overcome her anxiety and regain her inner confidence before sending her eldest son out into the world.





PERFECT STRANGERS (Perfectos Desconocidos)  - 90 min. Spain


A group of friends tread into dangerous waters when they share all the texts and messages they receive on their smart phones during a dinner party. Directed by Alex de la Iglesia.





SANTO CONTRA "CEREBRO DEL MAL"  - 71 min. Mexico (1961)



In this first film of El Santo, with the celebrated luchador as an agent of the secret police has been converted in the the zombified slave of the evil scientist, Doctor Campos (Joaquín Cordero), thanks to his mind control machine. El Santo es obligated to collaborate in the plans of the Doctor which includes stealing the formula for the disintegration of the cell which is possessed by other scientists. It is then that the inspector Zambrano (Enrique Zambrano) asks for the help of another masked man, El Incógnito (Fernando Osés), to return El Santo back to normalcy and stop the plans of the Cerebro del Mal.







THE FUTURE AHEAD (El futuro que viene)  - 85 min. Argentina



Following the frienship of Romina and Florencia from preadolescence through to motherhood and divorce, the film traces the history of a relationship as it withstands, and is at times battered by, the test of time.




THE GOLD SEEKERS (Los Buscadores)  - 102 min. Paraguay



Manu is looking through an ancient book his granfather gave him when he discovers an old map and photos. Knowing his granfather was a treasure hunter who was always looking for the gold and jewels of the famous Paraguayan triple border war treasures, he thinks this map may be a clue. Quickly enlisting a friend, he soon discovers that the location in the map is now an embassy and decides to begin an adventure of his own full of danger, love and of course a missing treasure.





VENENO, THE FINAL FALL (Veneno, Primera Caída)  - 97 min. Dominican Republic


How two friends became arch enemies, all due to the fame and glory of becoming superstars in the ring of lucha libre.






VIOLETA AT LAST (Violeta al fin) - 85 min. Costa Rica, Mexico



Recently divorced, 72-year-old Violeta lives alone in her childhood house, tending to her lush tropical garden and making plans to turn her property into a boarding house. When she discovers the bank is about to take away her house, she breaks all the rules to hold onto her home and her freedom.







WHO ARE YOU? (¿Quién eres tú?) - 98 min. Puerto Rico


The Secretary of Health of Puerto Rico, Dr. Eduardo Suarez, is forced to resign after disagreeing with the Governor’s new health reform. To make things worse, his wife has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, which effectively takes over his wife after only a couple of years. Eduardo and his six children try their best to face the gradual disappearance of the woman who was once their wife and mother, and eventually Eduardo begins a new relationship. Ernesto, the youngest of the children, disagrees with his father’s actions and does what he can to stop it, pushing the family towards crisis at an already difficult time..
